My New Years Resolution Revolution

Dear public diary,
It's January, which means journals across the country will be filled with pages that look like this,

New Years Resolutions 2009:

  • write in my journal every night
  • go to the gym 5 times a day
  • eat less (not anorexia less, just less in general)
  • eat healthy
  • become Super Mom
  • make dinner every night Hire a personal chef
  • channel my inner scrap booking diva
  • remember birthday's (other than my own)
  • find a permanent cure for runny noses (shoving a wad of toilet paper up your nostrils doesn't count)
  • assist in finding world peace and ending world hunger

Now if I believed in New Years Resolutions (and actually wrote in my journal) my list might look a little something like that. Don't get me wrong. I am pro-new years resolutions... they just don't work out so well for me. I finally stopped making New Years Resolutions when I realized that year after year I had the exact same resolutions that never got accomplished. The thought of trying to be good at multiple somethings for a whole year is just too overwhelming. I think I quit before I even started.

I like having goals. Goals are good. But I need daily goals that are realistic for me to accomplish, like, shave my legs today, stop Macie from eating more dental floss (that's right, you heard me. Dental floss) or make a dinner that doesn't consist of our 5 major food groups of chicken nuggets, PB&J sandwiches, frozen pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, or Mac N' Cheese. I guess we could just call them my New Days Resolutions. Now that is something I can manage. And maybe, if I'm feeling crazy, I might even make a New Week Resolution, but lets not get too carried away.

So, do tell, are you pro or anti New Years Resolutions?

I've become anti over the years for the same reason: I never get them accomplished. Guess I haven't matured enough to figure out I should tweak my goals instead of abandoning them altogether :) So good for you for being the bigger person!

Also, I'm still pretty happy being mediocre, so why mess with it?

I am into new years resolutions but LOVE the idea of new Day's resolutions. Definitely seems more doable. let's see, today I will shower. Yep I think I like this.

I am totally pro New YEars and weekly resolutions (much to my husband's chagrin!). I think it is fun to make goals but I really like weekly and daily ones because I like the feeling of checking them off.

whoever goes to the gym five times in one day must not have to work or take care of children. that is insane!

i am the same as you......new year's resolutions just don't work out for me. maybe if i made ONE goal then i could actually accomplish it, rather than having 10 goals!

I'd say I am pro resolutions. We make them each year, and yes, there are still many that continue on to the next year. Oh well. We try. :)

So are you trying to say that your New Year resolution is to not have a New Year resolution? The thought of how to make that work makes my head spin.

What are you talking about? I already do all of those things! Maybe my resolution should be to slow down...especially on going to the gym! It's like I live there! HA HA HA! You know me, I'm all about March Fourth (Forth)...that's the day that I set goals that I never accomplish. It also happens to be one of my favoritist people's birthday :)
