It's where I wake-up around 4:00 am and then I lay in bed for
around an hour and half wide awake.
WIDE. AWAKE.
My mind wanders about the most annoying things.
Last night it was Tsunami's and how I'm never going to visit a beach.
The night before that it was about earthquakes & emergency preparedness.
And the night before that it was obsessing over gaining weight
and the song, "back fat- back fat" to the tune of Dora's "Back pack- Back pack" kept replaying in my mind along with the chant of,
I must, I must, I must decrease my butt.
And seriously, who wants to be thinking about canning food and the fact that all my pants now look like spandex in the middle of the night? I don't.
I toss and turn and try to make enough movement to wake up Nate so that I can have some company for the next hour and a half.
But that doesn't work.
When that boy is out, he's OUT.
So when all attempts have failed of having him join in my early morning party,
I climb out of bed and walk around the house.
I turn up the heater and make my way to the kitchen.
I sit down in the dark and have myself a big bowl of cheerios.
I like cheerios... especially the multi-grain ones.
When I'm finished with the first bowl, I pour another small bowl.
And when I'm finished with the second bowl I debate on having a third
and then I remember,
"Back fat- Back fat".
I succumb to the guilt and put my bowl in the sink.
I make my way to the bedroom and turn the heat back down.
I climb back in bed and slooooowly start to drift away
and right before I'm feeling comfortable and almost of sleep....
Nate's alarm goes off....
..for the next hour and a half...
..every 5 minutes.
Have I mentioned that I'm really not a morning person?
p.s. I can't take credit for the back fat song. I didn't make that one up and I curse the day I ever heard it. It's just like the song that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friends...

back fat - nice! now i'm gonna have that in my head all day long... cheerios @4am don't sound too bad, but they would be better if an alarm didn't go off 3 times and if a nanny got up with my kids!
I would have had a third bowl, and left the heat up. I always took better naps while I was pregnant than I did sleeping at night so maybe a good nap is in order for you!
Oh I know the feeling, its trying to get you ready for when the baby comes your baby will probably wake you up every morning at 4... I'm sorry that you can't sleep. Call me some time I'm sure I am awake.
So you have no idea who I am....I found you through a friends blog, when I was...well Stalking. I love to look at other peoples blog for some unsettling reason. Anyway, I am pregnant with my first and am at 34 weeks and counting. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your blog. I know it sounds cheesy and ridiculous, but I have been having daily melt downs lately and I think finding your blog was an answer to my prayers. Your pretty much what I hope to be someday. ;) THANK YOU!!!
And I hope you don't mind if I stalk your blogs...I promise, no creepy peaks in the windows, just the blog.
Ohh 4am YUCK. Thats one of the not so great things about being pregnant for me I do the exact same thing! Insomnia is my friend during pregnancy, hang in there!
Take comfort in the fact that I am awake every night at that very same time, just 4 doors away!! So funny and so annoying. If I see your light on tonight at 4:00... I just might sneak over for a bowl of cereal and some good company.
I'm sorry that you keep waking up at 4:00. No one should be up that early!
I'm also sorry that you don't still live near me, because I would invite you to go to lunch and then to scour clearance racks.
I've been singing back fat all week long....and I hate it!!! I mean, I hate being fat. The problem with this pregnancy (mine) is that it never had to come back, it was already there--I don't know which way is worse! Congrats on the baby, I have been waiting for this announcement from you for a long time!
Ditto! I have the same problem! Every night at around 4 I wake up and can't go back to sleep until Greg leaves for school. Maybe if you could start waking up at about 2 in the morning, then that would be 4 my time and we could chat on the phone or something! When do you find out what you're having???
