DAY 1- Leaving Pennsylvania
The last view of HOME as we start our new adventure. Let us all have a moment of silence for Colony Arms apartments and their brown water and non-functional washers and dryers.
Feet up on the dashboard, wearing my favorite pair of jeans, kids are well behaved, things are going good... but it's only been an hour since we left. Then we realized Nate packed his wallet in our moving truck. We say a quick prayer that we don't get pulled over and call it good. Meet my Dad. He likes to eat hot dogs and by the looks of it, it must be a good one.
Me and the boy.
Day 2- Pennsylvania to Ohio
When ever things are going good you have to throw in a bad so you can really appreciate the good. So, my Dad's tire on the trailer blew out.
Check out the tire. Not fun. Not fun at all.
Check out all the cars & trucks passing us as we sit on the highway fixing the tire. Not fun. Not fun at all. Eventually the tire gets fixed and we are good to go.
Here are the kiddo's in their cars seats. They pretty much just looked homeless the whole drive to Utah. Same with their Mom.
Our new GPS= my new best friend
Day 3- Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, & Iowa
We start the drive with tornado warnings. Visions of the Wizard of flash through my head... I'm glad I don't live in the mid west. There's no place like home, there's no place like home.
Then things cleared up and we saw lots of this...
this...
and occasionally, we saw a little of this. (Macie's smiling because she figured out how to take her seat belt off.) Sure, she's cute. But don't let that smile fool you.
Just in case you're into trucking....
I get my kicks at...
Speed limits reads 75 mph...
We are holding strong at 67 mph. I don't recommend following a trailer across the country.
Here we are driving next to my Dad urging him to go at least 70 mph.
Day 4- Iowa & Nebraska
The tallest things in sight were the windmills. Not much else going on in Iowa.
...still nothing else too exciting going on.
Excitement found us soon enough when my Dad blew out another tire. Not quite the excitement I was looking for.
Still a lot of road left to cover...
Big buffalo.
Just when I was about to lose faith in Iowa and the lack of excitement we came across this awesome white trash wedding. I say that in the nicest way possible...
But honestly, what else would you call it when you see a big yellow bus pull up at a local gas station and out walks a bride, brides maids, and groomsmen all lighting up to have a quick smoke?... I LOVE IT! They sure know how to throw a wedding in Iowa.
Day 5- Nebraska to Utah With no white trash wedding to keep me entertained I resort to taking pictures of my talented toes. I welcome you to try it as well. It's taken me some time to get my toes up to this level of control and poise.
If you've made it this far through the post you're a saint. And if you thought that just reading it took a long time, just think of how long it must have taken to actually drive it.... way too long. That's for sure!

I can't believe thAT drive!! Seriously I think I would have died! And next time you travel with your dad, tell him to take the handcarts, it seems they'd be more reliable than the trailer! so glad you're here!
That is one long drive. I didn't even drive to Cali when we moved here, kyle and his parents drove and I flew later with Margo. I am glad for yo guys that it is over.
Ok, so reading your blog made me miss the good ole' west! Seriously! And we miss you too! I'm glad you got there safe and sound, ok, at least safe! We are definitely getting together when I come in August, I need a Ginnie fix. Oh and I love the toe pics, just so you know, I too can pull some amazing stunts with my long toes.
Wow! That sounds like to much fun! Not really, but isn't it nice to be back in the West and out of the humidity!!! So, was all your stuff packed in the camp trailer???
crystal,
we shipped all of our stuff and then we just drove with my Dad and used his camper to stay in... fun stuff!
Wow, what a road trip! Glad you guys made if home safe. I'm so happy to learn that I'm not the only one that can do some funky stuff with my toes, I'm loving your toe pictures. Hope to see ya sometime soon!
Wow now that is a road trip. Love the toe pictures, and that high class wedding you came upon.
2 blownout tires, now that does stink!!
Hope you guys are doing well!!
Ginnie
Don't think I have forgotten about the night(s) the $#!@ hit the fan when nate announced that he wanted a GPS... I can't lie, I am surprised to see it being referred to as your "new best friend", both because of your degree of opposition to buying it, and because you are referring to a GPS as your best friend, instead of me!
Glad to see your adventures are treating you well! When are you going to come back and visit us?
#1 Love the foot pics. Hilarious and so like you! It is quite a talent you have there.
#2 It was crazy to hear of all those flats in the newsletter and to see the pics in action. I take back when I said earlier that it sounds kinda fun.
Your so funny, that is why I like so much!! I feel like I was there with you the whole way. I even started falling asleep a little..... What a drive good job. Hope things are well. Jenny 4th of July????
Nice re-cap of your adventure, I feel like I actually drove across the country. That first picture of leaving the colony made me sad but the last picture of entering Utah made me happy!
What a drive!! we have done that twice now. From UT to PA and back again. Does make for many memories for me too!!
Loved the wedding party!!! Don't you just love the midwest. You should see the south. they have that beat big time!!
You crack me up! This was wonderful. Nate still looks hot, even in your sunglasses, lol. My little one knows how to take her seatbelt off to, have fun wtih that one!
Reading through your adventures makes me miss you and your family so much. You were as the pioneers and endured to the end. Look at all those great memories you have...loved the wedding and no road trip would be complete without a few blown out tires.
I know that drive, I drove from Utah to Wisconsin and it's the most boring drive ever! You should've stopped by to say hi, my husbands always down in Iowa. At least now I know where you are if I ever go back to Utah to visit. :)
Oh, and I'm going private so if I haven't already sent you an invitation, please email me so I can. anjereedy@yahoo.com
Ginnie, Brent just asked me why I read other peoples blogs. Well, after reading this one I know 100% that I read yours because I can get a good laugh. The kind that makes my sides hurt and tears spring! You are hilarious.
