So a while back I said that Macie had started climbing out of the crib. It's been so much fun!
The first few days I battled it out with her. She would climb out, I would put her back in. She would climb out, I would put her back in. She would climb out.... (you get the picture). This would last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. I tried my best to stay calm and then I would ask myself, "What would Super Nanny do?". Then I realized that Super Nanny hasn't ever been in this position since she doesn't have kids, so that didn't help much. Then I tried a different approach. I stand by her crib until she falls asleep. Not as much of a work out as the first idea, but equally as fun. After several days of doing that I realized that it was a stupid idea, so I stopped.
Finally I decided to just let her figure it out herself. After about 15 minutes of Macie pounding on the door it got quiet, which means one of 3 things,
- My child is getting into massive amounts of trouble.
- My child is laying unconscious on the floor.
- My child has fallen asleep.
I cautiously opened the door hoping that my room wouldn't be in complete disarray or that I wouldn't have to call 911 and brush up on my CPR skills (thankfully that was not the case), instead this is what I found,
Macie has now decided to call our nasty carpet floor her bed. But it doesn't stop there. The next day, after the 15 minutes of banging on the door, I went to check on her. I couldn't find her anywhere. I looked under the bed.. not there. I looked under her crib... not there. I looked under the masses of laundry... nope, not there. Finally I see some little toes peeking out from behind the closet door.
Macie had fallen asleep in our little closet (I would like to emphasize "little"). I'm not sure how she managed to fall asleep among the piles of shoes and other miscellaneous items, but she did.... and she still does.
Yep, Macie officially sleeps in the closet. I always start her in her crib, but she always ends up in the closet. Now what I end up doing is making a small make shift bed in the closet for her before I put her to bed, because if she's going to sleep in the closet I might as well make it a little bit more comfortable for her.
I realize that I might be setting myself up for a visit from the child social services. I can see it now, Abrie going to school telling all her friends and teachers that her little baby sister sleeps in the closet. Which will either confirm their suspicions of neglect or make them feel extremely sorry for us *"poor dental students" that we are so poor that our child has to sleep in the closet.
I also think that Macie's new sleep habits can be attributed to her fathers rare ability to sleep anywhere, at anytime, in any position.
As for me, well I'm anxiously looking forward to the day when we own a home and have a bigger closet for Macie to sleep in.
*I must state that we are not poor. Nope, not at all. We have access to an unlimited amount of loans we could take out if we ever wanted to feel rich.

That is just hilarious. Perhaps she has a thing for the smell of feet?
I guess you wouldn't mind loaning a complete stranger a few bucks since you are rolling in the dough. Momma needs some new shoes.
As for the unusual sleeping arrangements, at least she's not in YOUR bed. Take it from me, that really sucks. I wish my kid would sleep in the closet (I have a really really pretty one, newly renovated).
that is the funniest thing ever! She definitly takes after her Dad.
Poor little Macie. I am really lucky that Margo not only loves to take naps, but that she loves to sleep in her bed. Maybe its time to get Macie a big girl bed.
I am with you on the big girl bed jess! I can't wait to actually have a place to put one ;)2 months and counting....
Oh my gosh, that is hilarious! I love the picture of the little feet sticking out of the closet.
We watch Supernanny a lot here, and I think she would recommend you just keep putting her back in the bed...or get her a new big girl bed. One or the other. Not super helpful, I know, sorry. What a cutie though, and great story to blackmail her with when she grows up!
I'm just blog browsing today. Nice to meet you! Your children are adorable! I love the digging for hold picture too.
K once again you have me laughing my head off. I really can't believe she can fall asleep like that, that's awesome. My boys would NEVER do that, so consider yourself lucky.
2 months til you guys are moving??? Are you going to Utah?
Do you guys know where you are going to live? I know Utah but what city? I am jealous, but you have been away longer than I have. Hopefully we will go back by the end of this year. That is my dream!!!
You are a shining light in my day... My family obviously brings me my most joy (apparrently you don't feel the same... Making your poor children sleep in closets!) But anyway, I look forward to my opportunity to sluff off reality and visit camp Ginnie for a while!

HA that's funny about the closet. She just wants a place of her own and she found it! Collin used to sleep in the closet but we would actually put in him in there with his bassinet so he would sleep soundly!
She looks so cozy in there. Its so funny all of the positions kids can fall asleep in.
What a fun post! I was laughing as I read it. I agree with the few people who have suggested a big girl bed. Then at least she won't be sleeping on shoes lol!
Don't tell Management--they'll market your apartment as a 3 bedroom.
Whoops..."e" was me.
I am mostly impressed that the pounding on the door only lasted 15minutes.
We had/have the same issues since we put Spencer in a "big boy" bed. He still chose the floor for his bed for quite some time. Of course, he was perfectly happy in his crib when I tore him out of it to make room for baby.
So funny! If it was me I would have intentionally make the closet her bed! Our kids have slept in bathrooms, laundry rooms, closets, etc...just so that I couldn't hear their breathing at night. Don't
worry, I always heard everything else, just not every movement (I sleep extremely light!)
