I need to preface this with the fact that I'm aware that I should be building up my child's self esteem instead of cutting them down. With that said,
Abrie walks into the room with her crazy messy hair and she was wearing last years way too small clothes. I took one look at her and thought, "EEEEK!". Then the conversation went as follows,
Me: "Oh, Abrie honey. You look like you don't have a home" another way to say she looks a little homeless.
Abrie: "But Mom, we don't have a home"
Me, amused with Abrie's comment: "Ummmm, I guess you're right. Keep dressing homeless then, but be aware that when we have a home this will have to stop"
Abrie, confused: "OK, Mom"
Our home status:
No home, not yet. Hopefully a home will become a reality in the next 10 years or so. Until then I get to enjoy telling people that we live in my parents basement, which is totally awesome because who wouldn't want to live in their parents house. I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up!!Owning a home is so overrated.... right?
Now this is the part where you reassure me, "Ya, ginnie. Owning your own home is terrible. It's so hard to have all that extra space and privacy. Really, you're better off without one".
Wow, I'm feeling better already!

It really is overrated. I only have to give you one warning, when you get to the point where you are saying, "it's not that bad" that's when we realized that maybe we were taking a bit too much advantage of the FREE rent, FREE food, FREE babysitters (at any moment) I think I got way too used to being able to leave with Ryan at night and not have to put the girls to bed. But yes, believe me I am feeling for you!! Hang in there.
ummm, but have you ever told her that it must have been "dress like a lesbian day" like i did with my 13 year old? if you haven't, then you are still in the "good mom" category. enjoy!
Look on the bright side. At least you don't have a huge mortgage, and a crazy husband reminding you about it everytime you spend any money on yourself =). So I say use the free babysitting and go buy yourself something nice while you can!
Um, well you're not using a laundromat or smelling your neighbor's pot-smoke.
Do you get points for that?
I think it would be hard living with family(trust me I know), but really in all things there is good. I say live up the time you have.Watch you kids play, laugh and really make memories with your parents in a way that they would never get to. If anything that has got to be the best part of the whole thing. I mean come on one day you'll laugh about the whole homeless, no house story. Hang in there it's just a matter of time. By the way it was good talking to you the other day. Sounds like life is busy, but good.
This reminds me of a story from "The Forgotton Carols" you may have heard it, its called "Homeless"! Tee Hee!
I miss you tonz, Ginnie J! When are you gonna call me? You never forwarded me you phone number so I don't know how to call you.
I'm sure living in your parents basement doesn't even compare to how good you had it at the "conoly!" Hang in there and take care. CALL ME!
Umm, well we will never have a house either. I agree with you. Home ownership is over rated.
Really, I can't tell you how bad I want a house. I can't believe we are going to have to wait forever until we can afford the one we want.
Oh yeah, and, I wonder if you will ever reply to my e-mail regarding dinner.
why would you want a house?? you would get one like mine. The sewer goes out less than a month after you move in and learn to find all the public bathrooms within 4 blocks of your house!!!
text me sometime so we can get together!! 8016694700
Hey you could be in the l;oser status I am and own your own home with your parents or in my case my mom. Sure I am a home owner, but my mom owns the other half... I would welcome living in the basement over down the hall where she frequently pops down to bother me with things like chores to do..
Puhleeze........ you'll wish you could live in your parent's basesment when you have that dumb payment every month, taxes, and seem to live at home depot!! haha :) Really though- I'm sure it will be nice. I hope it happens soon! Keep waiting and the buying keeps getting better!
You're a funny writer. Sounds like things are just as full of surprise as ever! :) OH, and why do you have a cell phone? It's no easier to reach you on that thing! :)
