Food fight

I'm not talking about your typical lunch room food fight (not that I've ever seen that happen in real life). I'm talking about the constant battle of parent vs child on trying to get the kids to actually eat. Why do I waste my time making a good dinner that the kids don't eat when I could pop some chicken nuggets into the microwave for 45 sec. and call it good.

So what was the struggle over tonight?....zucchini and potatoes. And how long did it take Kaleb to eat one bite of each?... 2 1/2 hours. About an hour into it I was ready to wave the white flag, but Nate on the other hand had his boxing gloves on and was ready to go. Nate's persistence paid off and Nate won that seemingly loosing battle.

But the question is, was all of that fighting really worth it? and what are all your tricks to get your kids to actually eat? I'm thinking the option of just not cooking any more sounds good to me.

I feel ya sista! I don't have much advice because I am not as experienced in the realm of parenting yet. I really think that this is one of the hardest things about being a parent. It drives me insane when Hayden won't eat, which up until the last few months was a constant battle. I don't really think he started eating better because of anything I did, he just got tired of starving or something. I try not to stress about it anymore. I have started making him take "one more bite" though, before he can get down. You have a stubborn one! I can't believe he held out for over two hours. Hang in there is all I can say, stay consistent with what your doing.

p.s Kudos to Nate for sticking with it. I am glad he backs you on that stuff. James would have probably given in after a few minutes.

I have the same problem, and it drives me NUTS! I have absolutely no advice, sorry. I am just glad I am not the only one this happens to!

Jacksons the same way, one day he refused to eat the lunch he asked for and 7 hours later of pushing we finally caved and gave him something else. Trying to get him to try something new is impossible. If you get any good advise, pass it my way!

I'm afraid marta if you read my posts they'll make you never want to have kids.

Who knows, maybe the next time you go to the obgyn looking for the newest type of birth control the doctor might say, "hey there is this one blog called beautiful mess, if you read that you'll be cured for life". Ya never know, it just might happen.

Advice about children is very tought to handle out - but look at all the fun responses you got - at least you know you're not the only one out there. I remember fighting with Trev one day over the same thing and it was a similar two hour battle - Ugh! I remember my sis-in-law saying once that her pediatrician said that it only matters that kids get "one good meal in them a day." I keep trying to remember that. Usually we don't force the food, we just say, cool - that's all you get for food tonight. We also pull the "no dessert if you don't eat all your dinner" thing - works best on Family Night if you already know you'll have a treat. Some nights, Trev willfully acknowledges that he will miss out and Greg and I eat the icecream without him. Other nights, he will eat his vegetables with lightning speed. Best of luck!

Why sweat it! They're going to grow up rather they eat or not. Give them a vitamin and call it good. They won't let themselves starve.

Good luck! This too will pass!
